The Senior Management Team (SMT) has formed within the last six months and combines a mixture of skills and experience. Some of the team are new to the organisation.
The general manager commissioned a programme of development for the SMT. This was to build a shared vision for the organisation and to develop key messages for the business.
The programme started with one-to-one interviews with each member of the SMT. Each team member completed a DiSC personality questionnaire and received a personality profile. A training session was then run to explain how DiSC profiles can be used to understand how people behave and react.
The next stage of development was titled “The Best in Leadership”. This was a three day residential programme designed to achieve the following objectives:
- Develop a stronger sense of unity and effectiveness as a management team
- Learn about the specific skills, attributes and weaknesses of their respective colleagues
- Explore a number of management concepts and apply them to the operational environment
- Gain greater understanding of their individual responsibilities as part of the management team
- Discuss areas for improvement both organisationally and individually
- Refine how they communicate and interact with the business
During the programme the team undertook a series of development exercises to help them to bond as a team, to understand the way that they work together and to review each others’ strengths and weaknesses.
The team received input on creativity, attitudes and beliefs.
As a part of the programme the team developed a “message to the business” and individual action plans to be implemented when they returned to their offices.
The event was a great success and more interventions are scheduled for the future.
